Job Title: Day Camp Director
FLSA Status: Non Exempt-Seasonal
Reports to: Summer Camp & Retreats Director

POSITION SUMMARY

Under the direction of the full time directors, the Day Camp Director directly supervises campers and Day Camp staff while, making sure that the camper’s health and safety are attended to at all times and doing everything possible to assure that the campers and staff have a good experience.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

1. Supervising the activities of campers at all times.
2. Direct all programming activities for campers.
3. Keep the camper’s safety, health, hygiene, and cleanliness foremost in mind.
4. In any activity follow the policies and philosophies of Camp Wapsie and assure that the campers are also following them.
5. Participate in all of the courses, activities, classes, training, and planning sessions during the weeks of program pre-camp and pre-camp.
6. Maintain all paperwork and documents as directed.
7. Responsible for the cleanliness of the pavilion area, park grounds & around it, the Indoor Chapel, and each activity area used.
8. Supervise and direct day camp staff.
9. Direct the weekly overnight activity to Camp Wapsie.
10. Create and maintain a harmonious, positive working relationship with fellow staff, YMCA Camp Wapsie campers and participants.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must possess the ability to work with and motivate children between the age of 5 and 14.
  • Must possess strong communication and leadership skills.  
  •  Must be lively, enthusiastic, and energetic when interacting with the campers and staff.  
  • Enjoy working and interacting with people of all types and ages, with a special emphasis on children, modeling and utilizing the important core values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility.
  • Must have current First Aid and CPR certifications. Lifeguard certification and tower training encouraged.
