
METROPOLITAN YOUTH & ADULTS SPORTS DIRECTOR
The Metropolitan Youth and Adult Recreational Sports Director is responsible for independently performing leadership, administrative, and supervisory responsibilities and for the coordination of all YMCA Youth & Adult Sports Programs for the Metropolitan Association.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Plans, implements and supervises program activities to meet the needs of the community and fulfill YMCA objectives.
- Recruits, hires, trains, develops, schedules and directs personnel and volunteers as needed. Reviews and evaluates staff performance. Develops strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals.
- Establishes new program activities and expands programs in accordance with strategic and operating plans.
- Promotes, sells, and educates staff, members and community participants on the benefits of participating in key healthy living programs to maximize revenue potential and increase member retention.
- Develops and monitors program budget to meet fiscal objectives.
- Assists in YMCA fund raising activities and special events.
- Models relationship-building skills (including Listen First) in all interactions. Responds to all member and community inquiries and complaints in timely manner.
- Compiles program statistics. Monitors and evaluates the effectiveness of and participation
in programs. - Monitors equipment at all facilities and recommends purchase and or repair as needed.
- Monitors daily operations to adhere to all YMCA health and safety standards and policies.
- Oversees the administration of the YMCA’s signature programs.
- Partners with the City of Marion to implement co-branded sports activities and programs.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s Degree in Recreation Management, Physical Education, or related field preferred.
- Minimum of three (3) years of related experience is preferred, including internships.
- Minimum of two (2) years of supervisory experience, with well-developed hiring and supervision skills.
- Must possess the ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, proportions, percentages, area, circumference and volume and the ability to do basic algebra and geometry.
- Must be highly organized.
- Must be a creative problem solver and possess reasoning ability.
- Knowledge of exercise/fitness equipment and function, including the ability to troubleshoot mechanical problems.
- Knowledge of all sports that are offered through YMCA programming.
- Proficient in the use of computers and willingness to further develop computer skills.
- Must have the ability and knowledge and previous experience working with, diverse populations.
