Job Title: Ranger Camp Director
FLSA Status: Non Exempt-Seasonal
Reports to: Summer Camp & Retreats Director
PROGRAM SUMMARY
Under the Direction of the full time directors, the Ranger Camp Director lives with and supervises the ranger campers, assuring that the participants health and safety are attended to at all times, and assuring that the campers have an excellent camp experience.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
1. Live with and supervise the activities of the ranger campers at all times.
2. Keep the camper’s safety, health, hygiene, and cleanliness foremost in mind.
3. Check to see that the campers are getting their medication correctly and per schedule.
4. In any activity follow the policies and philosophies of Camp Wapsie and assure that the campers are also following them.
5. Participate in all of the courses, activities, classes, training, and planning sessions during the weeks of program pre-camp and pre-camp.
6. Chairs a committee to schedule one special day.
7. Teach and direct any assigned Counselors and leadership campers, mostly by being a strong role model.
8. Develop and lead the Ranger Camp schedule according to camp and program goals and policies.
9. With guidance from the Head Chef, plan menus and food preparation for Ranger campers.
10. Plan for and conduct nightly cabin taps.
11. Responsible for the cleanliness of the living area, grounds around it, and the activity area.
12. Lifeguard in the pool guard rotation when assigned.
13. Notify staff which activities ranger campers will participate in.
14. Oversee care of garden including: watering, weeding and harvesting of vegetables.
15. Program activities for your campers during cabin activity times.
16. Attend the weekly 1:00 PM Sunday staff meeting and share your ideas and distribute any informational material for an activity that you are programming during the week. Attend Program Team meetings when applicable.
17. Create and maintain a harmonious, positive working relationship with fellow staff, YMCA Camp Wapsie campers, parents and participants.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Must possess strong communication skills both with a small group and on an individual basis.
- Must possess the ability to provide leadership, instruction, a growth experience and a healthy safe camping environment.
- Must possess a strong knowledge of Outdoor skills activities.
- Must have current First Aid and CPR certifications. Lifeguard certification and tower training encouraged.
- Enjoys working and interacting with people of all types and ages, with a special emphasis on children, modeling and utilizing the important core values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility.
